Rhythmic Gymnastics is a beautiful Olympic sport, admired for its grace and elegance.
It combines elements of ballet and dance with acrobatic skills. Gymnasts perform routines choreographed to music and accompanied by one of the five hand-held equipment, called “apparatus”: Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon.
Our sport combines elegance and beauty of a dancer with the strength and coordination of an athlete.
It is a wonderful sport for girls. It helps them improve flexibility and coordination, balance, fitness and agility. It develops beautiful body lines and gracefulness.
As a competitive sport, Rhythmic Gymnastics also teaches many soft skills, that are essential for their future success and happiness in life: emotional intelligence, time management, motivation, confidence, growth mindset, creativity, setting and achieving goals. Participation in Group gymnastics training and competition helps our gymnasts to learn about team work, collaboration, conflict resolution, leadership skills and respect. Improved concentration skills help with academic performance.
In comparison with Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics poses much less risk of injury. Girls become more flexible, elegant and feminine, strong, but not as muscular as in Artistic Gymnastics. There is a lot of beauty in our sport, with its amazing movements, colours, and grace. Girls have lots of fun learning acrobatic elements, tossing and catching apparatus.
Rhythmic Gymnastics became an Olympic sport in 1984 and has grown in popularity every Games since.
Gymnastics NSW and Gymnastics Australia hold multiple Rhythmic Gymnastics competitions throughout the year for all Levels of gymnasts – from Beginners (Level 1) to Advanced (Level 10).
Our club’s gymnasts can participate in NSW North Zone competitions, NSW State Championships and can be selected to represent NSW team at the RG National Championships.
Best Australian Rhythmic gymnasts have opportunities to participate in international competitions, including the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
